Fried tofu pizza: The perfect afternoon snack

Pizza!!!!!

I love pizza in all forms, I guess that is one of my most “American” traits. How can one not love melted cheese and tomato sauce?

Whenever I talk to foreigners coming to the United States, one of the first things that they say is that they expected there to be hamburgers everywhere but it’s actually pizza! Throughout my schooling (also maybe because it’s cheap) if we had some kind of event it would always be free pizza! Basically pizza is super close to my heart and the ultimate comfort food!

But today it’s a Japanese-American pizza! Fried tofu and pizza?

You may think it’s crazy but this is a really great combination. It’s also great for people on a low carb diet because there is no dough involved. I think it tastes far better than those cauliflower crust pizzas (no offense cauliflower lovers!…) The fried tofu becomes super crispy in the oven and somehow it reminds me of hot pockets. It’s also highly customizable, choose your own toppings, and great for a mid afternoon snack!

About choosing the right fried tofu:

The fried tofu should be in the frozen section or the refrigerated section of Asian grocery stores. However, this kind of fried tofu is usually for putting into miso soup or to make inari sushi, so it may be difficult to find in a regular Asian grocery store. I recommend checking out Asian grocery stores that carry many Japanese ingredients.  Making fried tofu is extremely difficult or so I’ve heard!
